Fergie is Furious over Vidic Black eye

ALEX FERGUSON claimed Nemanja Vidic had to recover from a beating-up at Bolton to be fit to face Bayern Munich.

Ferguson is angry Wanderers boss Owen Coyle tried to accuse Vidic of deliberately elbowing Johan Elmander, who was left needing four stitches in a head wound.

And last night Ferguson insisted it was Serb defender Vidic who got the real roughing-up at the Reebok ahead of tonight’s crunch Champions League quarter-final, first leg showdown with the German champions.

Ferguson said: “What’s the story about those in glass houses?

“Vidic came in at half-time on Saturday with a lump on his head, a swollen jaw and also a black eye.”

Despite Coyle’s protestations, the FA will not charge Vidic over the incident.

And Ferguson was adamant there was absolutely no intent from the big Serb.

The Scot added: “I would be amazed if he was charged. I would be totally amazed.

“It was clear he had his eye on the ball.

“It was a clear header from the centre-back.

“There was no intent whatsoever, no eyes towards the centre- forward.

“I’m not sure he knew he was even there.

“His sole intention was to attack that ball and head it clear. And he did that.”

Coyle had disagreed. He insisted: “Anyone who has seen it knows that it was a terrible challenge.”

Vidic will once again team up with Rio Ferdinand in Munich’s Allianz Arena, after Ferdinand missed the trip to Bolton with a groin injury.

Wayne Rooney is also fit to play.

He was rested for the Bolton game, as United manage the England star’s knee problem.
