Football has seen a lot of changes in last two decades. As more and more money has been brought into the game big clubs in different football leagues have splashed out the cash on mighty transfer fees for best players in the world. At the start of 2000 Spanish and Italian clubs like Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid were the super powers in spending heavy transfer fees for best players in the world. Although, English clubs like Manchester United were also present to pay big transfer fees but it all changed when Chelsea saw a new owner at the club in the form of Roman Abramovich in 2003/04. With him taking over the club, the race of getting players at high transfer fees started and upto now we have seen many transfer records broken by different clubs. So lets look at the top 10 most expensive football transfers in history of the game.
Number 9&10:
We have two players on number 9&10 position in the list who were transferred on same fee. Sergio Aguero and Andy Carroll both cost approximately 35 Million Pounds to Manchester City and Liverpool respectively. David Beckham also had same transfer fee on his head when he got transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
Number 8&7:
Hernan Crespo and Radamel Falcao come on number 8th and 7th spot with both players costing 35.5 and 35.2 Million Pounds to Lazio and Atletico Madrid.
Number 6:
Javier Pastore of Argentina is on number 6 spot in the list. He transferred from Italian Side Palermo to French side PSG for approximately 36.7 Million Pounds.
Number 5:
Portugal hero Luis Figo is on 5th spot in this list with his transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid involved 37 million pounds.
Number 4:
Zinedine Zidane remained the most expensive player in the history of football for more than 8 years with an astonishing 46.2 Million Pound transfer fee which Real Madrid paid to Juventus in 2001.
Number 4:
Fernando Torres is on the 4th spot in the most expensive transfers list with Chelsea paying 50 Million Pounds to Liverpool in January 2011.
Number 3:
The transfer of Kaka did break the record of Zidane for a short spell of time as Real Madrid paid 56 Million Pounds to AC Milan in 2009.
Number 2:
Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the most expensive player in the history of football when Barcelona paid 60.7 Million Pounds to Inter Milan for his services. Just like Kaka, his record was short lived as well.
Number 1:
The transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo costing Real Madrid 80 Million Pounds is the most expensive one in the history of football. It remains unclear that when this record will be broken because the only player present in current football world is Messi who is clearly happy to stay at Barca for a long time. But just like Ronaldo became the most expensive player in the history after Zidane, we are sure in next 10 to 20 years, football world will see a bigger star than him as well.
