Wayne Rooney scored one of the best goals of his life to keep Manchester United right on track towards record breaking 19 premier league title. The sensational strike helped Red Devils to win their derby match against Manchester City.

Question marks were being put on Red Devils after their first defeat of the season against Wolves but they have answered their critics in the best possible manner with a sublime victory over their title rivals Manchester City.

Fans on both sides feared that the 144th Manchester derby would follow the same pattern in which 143th derby was concluded and things looked worse for them when both teams started with 4-5-1 formations as top scorer Dimitar Berbatov and big money signing Edin Dzeko were left on the bench by Sir Alex and Mancini.  However, both teams were missing their key defensive players as Nigel De Jong and Rio Ferdinand were both absent for United and City respectively.

But defensive problems were not to be blame for the first opening of the game as slick passing between Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez and David Silva opened an opportunity for the Spanish winger to score but he was not able to convert the chance into goal.

First Goal

Manchester City played very good game in the beginning as David Silva produced an all round performance to terrorize United back four. However, first half was very quite for both strikers as Tevez and Rooney both struggled to make any mark on the game. Every mistake from the Argentine was greeted with cheers from United fans.  However, Rooney, Giggs and Nani combined with devastating effect to give United the lead just before the break. City players got down on the opening goal of the match because they were playing good football and United never threatened their goal.

Second Half

Second half started with City substituting Aleksandar Kolarov with Shaun Wright Philips and it worked because the inclusion of Wright Philips energized the front three men for City. It was not long before City introduced their second substitution as Edin Dzeko replaced James Milner who received a knock during the game.

Great Substitutions

Edin Dzeko played a big part in the equalizing goal for Manchester City as he combined with another substitute Wright Philips to produce a powerful shot on goal through low cross from Wright Philips which took a big deflection from Silva’s back to wrong foot Van Der Sar on 65th minute.

Great Response

United needed to response in order to avoid defeat against their city rivals as City started to dominate possession after scoring their goal. Sir Alex introduced Berbatov as the game started to open up. But it was Wayne Rooney who had the last laugh as he scored on a bicycle kick from Nani’s cross to finish the title challenge of Manchester City.

Watchprem Man of the Match

Without a shadow of a doubt, David Silva was watchprem man of the match as he constantly threatened United back four.

Watchprem Talking Point

Are United now clear to get the record breaking 19th premier league title.

I really think that United were lucky in this match!! City played good football and United wouldnt have won if there was no Wayne Rooney!!
However, i hate to admit but it is true that United will win the title this year..
