Former Brazil international striker Ronaldo is set to retire from all types of football on Monday. Three times world player of the year who is now 34 has a contract with Corinthians which will end later this year but he has decided to hang his boots due to a shock early elimination of his side from Libertadores cup.
Ronaldo scored goals for fun during his time in Europe with the likes of PSV ,Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan before opting to go back to his native Brazil. He told the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper’s website that continuous injury problems are the main reason behind his retirement. Ronaldo has suffered and damaged knee ligaments throughout his career. Medical experts have blamed his weight over continuous knee injuries.
He said.
"I can't take it any more,". "I wanted to carry on, but I can't. I plan a move(in a game) but I can execute as I wish. The time is up."
A press is conference is also scheduled today in which Ronaldo will officially announce his retirement in front of media.
