Pakistan Race To 7 Wicket Win

Published on April 25, 2011 by   ·   No Comments

Pakistan secured a 2-0 lead in the 5 match ODI series when they defeated West Indies by 7 wickets in 2nd ODI. After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to field first and it proved to be the right decision as Pakistan spinners did the job for the team. Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal took wickets of Devon Smith and Darren Bravo. Simmons who has been continuously scoring against Pakistan in the tour again scored a half century before being caught out on the bowling of Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi.

No Big Contributions

Almost every batsman started their innings and looked promising for West Indies but none of them was able to score a big one for their team. Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Carlton Baugh and captain Darren Sammy all got starts but were unable to carry on the momentum. As a result of losing wickets at regular interval, West Indies were able score only 220 runs just like the first ODI.

For Pakistan, Junaid Khan still remain wicket less in his career so far whereas Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal all took 2 wickets each. Hammad Azam got the important wicket of Samuels to play his part in bowling.

Solid Start

In reply, Pakistan were never in trouble. The only hope for West Indies bowlers were that men in green were playing slowly. Mohammad Hafeez scored 32 runs from 51 balls and was eventually caught behind on the bowling of Bishoo who has been the only bowler which has been threatening Pakistan batting line up. However, Asad Shafiq and Ahmad Shehzad continued to score steadily. Asad Shafiq was run out when he was on 23 runs whereas Bishoo again took Ahmad Shehzad out of the way when he completed his century.  There were some concerns for Pakistan in the end but Umar Akmal and Misbha-ul-Haq did the job for Pakistan and sealed an emphatic 7 wicket win over West Indies.
