England Keep Series Alive

Jonathon Trott’s timely ton secured a 21 run victory for England in the 4th ODI as they keep the 7 matches series alive. England needed to win in all conditions to keep series intact and the situation will remain the same for the three lions when they visit Brisbane on Sunday for the 5thODI.

England managed to make 299/8 in their 50 over’s to give Australia exactly 300 runs to chase. England produced a good bowling performance as their slow bowling effectively stopped Australia to have any rhythm at all. It seemed that England was bowling slowly with a plan and their plan was rewarded when the danger man Shane Watson fell with a good 64 runs.

Brad Haddin started brightly by scoring quick 20 runs before chipping a delivery from Tremlett to cover. Shaun Marsh and Michael Clark continued to struggle as both were bowled out under 20 runs. Australia was 116/4 when Shane Watson was caught out in the deep by Ajmal Shahzad.  It was not Australia’s day at all as Trott continued his lucky match by taking two crucial wickets by removing hard hitting Cameron White and match winner David Hussey but lower order gave a good account of themselves as Steven Smith made his career best by making 46 and Brett Lee scored 39 runs as the pair was unable to Guide Australia to victory and they ended at 278/7 in 50 Overs.

This was a much needed win for England as they finally ended a 4 match losing streak and registered their first victory in the series. Three lions have been rocked by the injury news as Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann all have been injured after their Ashes heroics so winning this match will surely lift morale of the camp especially with injuries to key players playing a major role in the downfall for England in the ODI series so far.
